So, I’m minding my own business at work in my cube and I over hear two of my co-workers start talking about politics. The conversation quickly switched to religion. They were talking about war, and then talked about supporting Israel. Person A’s stance was that war wasn’t the answer. Person B asked “What would have happened to Hitler then?” They talked about what were the reasons wars have started. Religion was their main talking point. Person A was pointing out wars that started over religion and then person b stated “They weren’t following the word of Jesus Christ.” WHAT?!
It was so hard to bite my tongue. What an ignorant statement. So, religious wars were only started by non Christian based religions? Hello! Ever heard of the Crusades?! Based on his theory… I don’t believe in Jesus Christ. Should he wage war against me? Better yet, maybe I should wage war against him so he wont have the guilt of starting the whole mess? It is this thought process that kills me about right wing religious people. OK, maybe not all, but a lot of them. You know who you are.
Religion is not bad, but you can’t run every aspect of your life based on the bible. The bible is a historic book that is possibly based on fact and/or fiction. From what I understand, religions say to use the bible as a guide line for life. Not a step by step walk through. We all understand morals and ethics. It’s up to us to reach inside of of ourselves and do the right thing.
So back to Israel. I’m not saying we should or should not support them. I’m saying you can’t base risking American lives over beliefs. Just because your a “…follower of the bible and bad things have happen to those who haven’t supported them.” (a quote from person B) you can’t suggest we go to war. After all… There will be men and women fighting your religious war who aren’t Christian. Some will be Atheist, Jewish or maybe even, heaven forbid, (HAHA I made a funny) Muslim!
