Treasures

It’s interesting to think about the things that we value a treasures. Things that we horde away in hopes of protecting. Things that we must stash so other wont find it. I like to see the things Jade hides. She loves to hide her Kong Bone. She never forgets where it’s at though. One little cry of “Where’s the bone?” and she takes off like a bat out of hell to fetch it and bring it to you to throw.

What’s even more interesting is what the 7 year old mind treasures. Molly LOVES to collect twigs, acorns, chestnuts, and her most valued collectible… Rocks! Last night Molly gave me a peek at her extreme valuables… Ones so valuable that they have their very own “treasures box” as she called it. What do you think these valuables are? Take a look.
Yep, broken glass. She found it at the school playground. There were two rocks in the box too. We explained that broken glass is dangerous, she shouldn’t touch it and shouldn’t collect it anymore. I guess she had a few beer bottle caps in her back pack too. She wasn’t too upset about throwing away the glass, but she did get a little frantic about the rocks. I assured her that I would return the rocks in the treasure box once the glass was removed.

Kids now a days… Go figure. (I’ve been wanting to say that for a long long time now.)

It’s the littlest angel story. Gives me goose bumps because nothing will ever matter as much or feel quite as right as those things we keep in the secret boxes of our hearts (except when you’re seven it’s pink and real and you can take it out and look at everything). Maybe she will find some sea glass to replace the broken glass.

    alecto,

I get Patricia have gone sea glass hunting, so that may be where this comes from. Maybe its time to hit the coast again.

Molly has always loved to collect things, when she was 3 every day I picked her up from school she would say “Mommy I have a present for you!” and she would pull a bark chip out of her coat. She has a seashell and seaglass collection again, it has to be where it comes from…I love that she is creative in her collecting (just not beer caps and broken glass please)

Aww, sweet! My daughter collects rocks everywhere we go, then draws faces on them with a sharpie and names them. We’ve had to actually ban them to the backyard because the toy box was getting too full.

That’s rad. My Dad and I used to paint faces on rocks too.
