I’m going to melt!
Posted by jim in Life Update on July 24th, 2009
I’m already tired of the summer. I could use some cold wet days of winter. It’s supposed to be near or over 100 degrees next week. No good!
Now time for the life update.
Things have been busy, and I’ve been a lazy blogger. We took a trip to Merlin as you can see from my last photoblog. It was great. We needed a little mini vacation like that. It was Molly’s first time rafting. Surprisingly, we wasn’t scared at all. Jade didn’t have as much fun at my Mom’s as she normally does. She skinned her paw pads again playing fetch. I brought her to work on Friday before we left, and my manger threw her ball on the sidewalk. Jade doesn’t slow down to pick up the ball until its in her mouth, and then she some to a sliding stop. OUCH! She could barely walk all weekend. The only thing we could do was try to limit her movement, and keep her paws clean. She’s back to her ball crazy normal self now.
Wait loss? What do you mean “wait loss”? Oh yea… My diet. Well… umm… yea. To be continued at a later date. I just haven’t been motivated. I’ll be back on the wagon soon though. Until then… Who wants a cheese burger?
Work is going well. I got my first pay check as a trainer today. Uncle Sam rapped me. Of course I’m single and claim zero, so what do you expect?
That’s what up with me. Hope you are all well.
Peace out!
Tasty photos for you to snack on.

Itchy Jade pt. 2

The vet thought jade got bit by a spider. They gave an a shot with a mix of benidryl and steroids. They also said I should monitor her throughout the day, so I stayed home and made sure she was breathing ok.
She’s looking fine now, and seems back to normal. We’re still not sure if it was the new bed or not. We’ll wash it and try it again in a week or so.

We woke up to find hives all over Jade. The only thing different in the last 24 hours is a new bed for the living room. She laid in it for a couple hours last night, Its your typical polyester/cotton blend. Not sure if that caused the problem. We gave her Benadryl, but that hasn’t seamed to work. I gave her a bath using oatmeal shampoo per the Vet Tech’s orders, and still no relief. Jade has a vet appointment at 8:40 this morning. I hope they can figure out what’s caused this
Oh SNAP! I snapped some photos!

Shera (update)
I called and talked to the Vet after my Dad took Shera in. He says she has a neurological disorder that is common in most older dogs. Shera is 15 years old. That’s really old for a large breed.
The disorder cuts the connection from the inner ear to the brain causing a loss of balance. Is worst cases dogs will just lay down and not walk. After a while (days sometimes) they get use to it, and try walking again. The body adapts and they become functional again.
The problem is my Dad seams to think Shera has progressively gotten worse over the course of the last week. The Vet said she has an ear infection which could be causing this. Because of the itchy ears Shera shakes her head, losses her balance and falls down.
The Vet gave my Dad some antibiotics for the ear infection, and said it could be 3-4 weeks before seeing an improvement. If she doesn’t improve it could be something worse like a brain tumor. Only a MRI could show that, but that unfortunately, financially, is not an option.
So now we wait, and hope for the best.
Shera
I got a frantic call from my dad about his dog Shera. I guess she just keeps falling over while trying to walk. She has been going deaf and blind for a while now. She’s apparently walking with her legs spread out wide to try and keep her balance. I asked his to check her ears. He says they look clean, normal colored and don’t smell.
He wants to take her to the vet but can’t afford it. That’s why he called. His vet was booked solid for the day and can’t see Shera until the morning. He doesn’t want to take her anywhere else, so I booked the appointment. I’ll know more tomorrow.
It breaks my heart to hear my Dad like this. Shera is his world, now that my Grandmather has passed away and I moved to Portland. Shera is all he has. She’s been a great dog. I’m not sure there is anything the vet can do for her. The only thing I/we can do is plan for the worst and hope for the best.

That’s it for now. Maybe the next photoblog will be even better.
I’ll never wish for a white Christmas… EVER!

I love the cold. That’s one of the best thing about living in the North West, but this snow has to go. Most of the time it snows and melts when it hits the ground. At the most it’ll stick on the ground for a couple of hours, but for the last week of so it has been cold and windy. We have snow on top of ice, on top of snow, on top of ice, on top of snow, ect… Makes for sucky driving conditions.
This resent storm has broken the record for most snow fall in the month of December in Portland, OR. Crazy! We’re on track to break the record for most snowfall in one winter season.
Thanks to this lovely storm… I’ll be at work for a 12 hour shift. There are 60,000 customer’s with out power and I am helping train employees from other departments to take calls from customers, and I’m taking calls in between trainings. I came in yesterday to train some meter readers to take calls yesterday too. I’ll have some crazy overtime on my pay check. I guess that’s nice.
Here are some photos.
My work’s parking lot with a little snow a few days ago.
This is the parking lot this morning
Snow piled up on the tables outside.
Patricia emailed me some photos of Molly and Jade playing in the snow this morning. I’m glad someone is enjoying the snow.
